Resumo

Este artigo retoma a experiência de criação, produção e execução do projeto em jardinagem Little Sparta, estabelecido em 1966 na Escócia pelos artistas Sue Finlay e Ian Hamilton Finlay. A artista reflete sobre as dinâmicas de implementação do jardim, idealizado por Ian Hamilton Finlay, quando à época era a responsável executiva por todos procedimentos em jardinagem, expondo a criação do jardim por meio de método experimental e intuitivo. Através de um uso brilhante do relato ensaístico, Sue Finlay aborda as dificuldades, as incertezas e as surpresas envolvidas no processo de cultivo do jardim, as escolhas estéticas e paisagísticas, as experiências quando criança com jardins, desdobrando-as em uma investigação sobre a vida imbrincada com a natureza, sobre o relato de memórias vividas, sobre a vida como arte do viver.

The Planting of a Hillside Garden

Abstract

This article takes up the experience of creating, producing and executing the gardening project Little Sparta, established in 1966 in Scotland by artists Sue Finlay and Ian Hamilton Finlay. The artist reflects on the dynamics of implementing the garden, idealized by Ian Hamilton Finlay, when at the time she was the executive responsible for all gardening procedures, exposing the creation of the garden through an experimental and intuitive method. Through the use of a brilliant and essayistic writing, Sue Finlay addresses the difficulties, uncertainties and surprises involved in the garden cultivation process, the aesthetic and landscape choices, the experiences as a child with gardens, unfolding them in an investigation about life intertwined with nature, about the story of lived memories, about life as the art of living.
